Futebol e identidade na Argélia: a história da seleção da Frente de Libertação Nacional (1958-1962)

Mais do que um simples divertimento popular, espetáculo, ou entretenimento banal que se encerra em si mesmo, o futebol pode ser entendido como um importante fenômeno sociocultural, capaz de representar conflitos e contradições do tempo e do espaço em que está inserido. Neste trabalho, procuramos destacar a participação do futebol na construção da identidade nacional. Mais especificamente, buscamos resgatar a trajetória do selecionado formado pela Frente de Libertação Nacional, da Argélia, e sua participação na luta pela independência daquele país. A análise nos sugere afastar da tese simplista do futebol, bem como do sentimento de nação, como ferramenta ideológica de alienação e manipulação, apontando a possibilidade de disputas em torno dos significados atribuídos a eles.

More than a simple popular entertainment, show, or banal entertainment that ends in itself, football can be understood as an important sociocultural factor, capable of representing conflicts and contradictions of the time and space in which it is inserted. In this work, we seek to highlight the participation of football in the construction of the national identity. More specifically, we seek to rescue the trajectory of the selected formed by the National Liberation Front of Algeria, and their participation in the struggle for the independence of that country. The analysis obliges us to this simplistic aspect of football, as well as the feeling of nation, as an ideological tool of alienation and manipulation, allowing the possibility of disputes over the meanings derived from them.
