O futebol ao Rés-do-chão

Este estudo está voltado à leitura dos textos de escritores e colunistas que, a partir da década de 1990, colaboraram com os principais jornais do eixo Rio-São Paulo (representados aqui pelos diários O Estado de S. Paulo, Folha de S. Paulo, O Globo e Jomal do Brasil) na cobertura das Copas do Mundo de futebol. A pesquisa parte da idéia de que a crônica, entendida comumente como um “gênero menor” (segundo definição de Antonio Candido), assumiu certas singularidades ao aparecer numa editoria também considerada “menor” dentro do jornal – a seção de esportes. E, diante de um universo tão favorável a manifestações fantasiosas e emocionais como o do futebol, esse jornalismo também se transformou numa forma particular de ficção literária, por meio das crônicas que preencheram as páginas esportivas da imprensa brasileira nos últimos anos. O trabalho põe inicialmente em discussão a proposta do semioticista Umberto Eco – segundo o qual o discurso da imprensa esportiva é, de forma geral, alienante e composto apenas da chamada função fática. Em seguida, descreve-se brevemente o percurso do jornalismo esportivo brasileiro ao longo das Copas. Esse evento, que desfruta de uma simbologia toda especial no país, passou a contar nos últimos anos com grande presença de escritores e colunistas conhecidos do grande público, chamados a comentar e analisar o mundo que cerca o futebol para o leitor brasileiro. Tais profissionais, em menor ou maior grau, vêm atuando no sentido de superar o mero aspecto fático apontado por Umberto Eco e de se distanciar das ortodoxias do discurso jornalístico. A tese demonstra como essas celebridades adquiriram importância ímpar na imprensa esportiva brasileira, e, conseqüentemente, como seus textos tornaram-se um veículo para manifestações subjetivas e fabulosas -literárias, em uma só palavra. As colunas e crônicas, permeadas pelas funções metalingüística e poética, enriqueceram as páginas esportivas com relatos, narrativas ou comentários imagéticos, subjetivos e até mesmo ficcionais sobre o futebol brasileiro. Trata-se de um fenômeno que se contrapõe, assim, à busca do referente e da isenção jornalística que vem direcionando os trabalhos da grande imprensa escrita no Brasil desde o final do século XX.

This study is directed to the reading of the texts of writers and columnists that, since the nineties, have collaborated to the main newspapers of the Rio-São Paulo axis (represented here by the diaries O Estado de S. Paulo, Folha de S. Paulo, O Globo and Jornal do Brasil) when covering the World Cups. The research starts from the idea that the chronicle, commonly understood as a “minor genre” (according to the definition of Antonio Candido), assumed certain singularities when arising at an editorship also considered “minor” within the newspaper – the sports section. And, before a universe so favorable to imaginary and emotional manifestations as the football, this journalism has also transformed into a particular form of literary fiction, by means of the chronicles that filled the sportive pages of the Brazilian press on last years. The paper initially places on discussion the proposal of the semioticist Umberto Eco – according who the sportive press speech is, in general form, alienating and composed only of the so called phatic function. Afterwards, it is described the Brazilian sportive journalism path over the World Cups. This event, that takes advantage of a symbology totally special on the country, started to count on the last years with the large presence of writers and columnists known by the great public, called to comment and analyze the world that surrounds the football for the Brazilian reader. Such professionals, at a greater or lesser grade, have been acting towards overcoming the mere phatic aspect pointed by Umberto Eco and of getting apart from the orthodoxies of the journalistic speech. The thesis demonstrates how these celebrities acquired unique importance within the Brazilian sportive press, and, consequently, how their texts have turned into a vehicle for the subjective and fabulous – literary – manifestation, in only one word. The columns and chronicles, permeated by the metalinguistic and poetic functions, have enriched the sportive pages with imaginative, subjective and even fictional reports, narratives or commentaries about the Brazilian football. It deals with a phenomenon that opposes thereby, to the search of the journalistic referentiality and exemption that have been directing the works of the great written press in Brazil since the final of the XX century.
