Resumo
Este artigo aborda e discute um curto período da história do futebol no Brasil que, embora à margem dos acontecimentos consagrados pela memória social, revela-se significativo tanto para a compreensão quanto a popularidade que o futebol alcançara ao longo das primeiras décadas do século XX e, sobretudo, para o exame das conexões entre a vida social, o discurso da “brasilidade” e o Estado no contexto do regime varguista.
Abstract
This article discusses a short period in the history of soccer in Brazil, a period marked by inexistence in the collective memory of events consecrated but significant both for understanding the popularity that soccer had achieved throughout the first decades of the 20th century and, mainly, to analyze the connections between social life, the discourse of a certain “brasility” and the State in the context of Vargas” regime.
