En este artículo se postula que el fútbol puede ser considerado como un ejemplo del proceso de transfiguración social de los rituales y fiestas en las sociedades de la modernidad tardía, y de su encarnación en fenómenos masivos. Para ahondar en esta hipótesis se examina información empírica procedente de diversas encuestas realizadas en España durante los últimos años.

In this article we postulate that European football (sucker) can be seen not only as an example of the process of a social transfiguration of the rituals and feasts in late-modern societies, but also as a manifestation of their trend towards massphenomena. In order to demonstrate the validity of our hypothesis, recent empirical data from different surveys in Spain will be analysed.
