Futebol, masculinidade e a “amizade sem limites”

O artigo tem como objetivo refletir sobre a relação entre futebol, masculinidade e amizade. Procura compreender, através de relatos da imprensa escrita, a categoria acusatória “amizade sem limites” no caso envolvendo os atletas Leandro e Renato nas vésperas da Copa do Mundo de 1986. Aborda como a masculinidade dos dois atletas foi retratada para compreender o desligamento de um e a renuncia do outro da seleção brasileira. Aponta que a amizade quando pensada como sem limites impõe suspeitas sobre a masculinidade e acomete perigosamente tanto os atletas quanto a própria esfera do futebol. Explora a transformação da categoria de acusação em algo mais compreensível e legítimo para este campo social, o que resulta em uma negociação de significados sobre a amizade afastando-a do viés da afetividade e aproximando-a da solidariedade. 

The aim of the article is to reflect upon the relation between soccer, masculinity and friendship. Based on the accounts of the sports media it tries to understand the accusatory category “limitless friendship” which was labeled the relationship among two athletes – Leandro and Renato – on the verge of the 1986´s World Cup. It also proposes to reveal how the masculinities of the aforementioned athletes were depicted to understand the detachment of Renato and the renouncement of Leandro from the Brazilian team. Moreover it points out that when a friendship relation is thought of as limitless it imposes a not only a threatening to the masculinity of the athletes but also to the social field itself. Furthermore the article explores the negotiation of the meaning of the accusatory category in order to show its transformation. In order to detach it from the emotional bias and to approach from something that could be praised and understood in a all males dominant universe, such as solidarity.
