A Istanbul, capitale culturelle et économique de la Turquie, s’affrontent depuis plus d’un siècle deux clubs qui, depuis leur fondation sur les ruines de l’Empire ottoman, reflètent deux conceptions rivales de l’identité stambouliote : l’ottomane et l’aristocratique, avec le Galatasaray, créé en 1905 par des élèves du lycée français éponyme ; la kémaliste et la républicaine, avec le Fenerbahçe, qui a vu le jour en 1907 sur la rive orientale du Bosphore… Non par les dissidents, mais par « les jeans et la musique rock ».
