Nacionalismo e identidade nacional nas copas do mundo de 1970 e 1994 na revista Veja

Essa dissertação é resultado da pesquisa realizada no programa de mestrado em História Social com ênfase em Territórios do Político da Universidade Estadual de Londrina. Ela tem como objetivo analisar as edições da revista Veja que cobriram as Copas do Mundo de 1970 e 1994, procurando mostrar quais as semelhanças e diferenças existentes entre os campeonatos que trouxeram o tricampeonato e o tetracampeonato mundial de futebol. No primeiro capítulo discutiremos questões envolvendo a Nação e o nacionalismo, baseado nos conceitos apresentados por Benedict Anderson e Marilena Chauí. Durante nossa história procuramos encontrar seja na literatura ou na escrita da história aquilo que seria nacional e defendemos que o futebol seja o que melhor define nossa identidade nacional. No capítulo seguinte, trabalharemos a história do futebol no mundo e no Brasil, analisando sua importância social, cultural e política. As conquistas da Copa do Mundo de 1958 e 1962 serão abordadas, juntamente com seus significados políticos. No terceiro capítulo abordaremos a história da revista Veja, seu início, dificuldades e também o período posterior, da década de 1990, quando a revista assume um papel de protagonismo na política brasileira. O último capítulo aborda os acontecimentos envoltos a conquista do tricampeonato em 1970 e o tetracampeonato em 1994. Analisamos também as reportagens da revista que abordavam os jogos realizados pela seleção brasileira, mostrando que a questão do nacionalismo esteve sempre presente, pois nos imaginávamos como uma nação quando o time vestindo verde e amarelo entrava em campo. Concluímos que os períodos analisados trazem muitas diferenças, seja na figura do “herói” da Copa, seja na associação do futebol ao governo vigente, mas percebemos que em ambas está presente a ideia de que o brasileiro se identifica com o “futebol-arte”, por conter elementos relacionados à identidade brasileira como a ginga, dribles e a alegria.

This dissertation results from a research made in the master program of Social History, with emphasis in Politics of the State University of Londrina. Its objective is to analyze the editions of Vejamagazine that talked about the 1970 and 1994 World Cups, seeking to show which are the similarities and differences between the championships that brought us the third and the fourth title of the soccer World CuP. On the first chapter, we are going to talk about the issues related the nation and the nationalism, based on the concepts presented by Benedict Anderson and MarilenaChauí. During our history we tried to find in our literature and in the way our history was written the one thing that was national, and we defend that soccer is what best defines our national identity. On the next chapter, we talk about the history of soccer in the world and in Brazil, analyzing its social, cultural and politics matter. The accomplishments of the 1958 and 1962 World Cups are discussed, as also its politics means. On the third chapter, we are going to approach the history of Veja magazine, its beginning, difficulties and also the posterior period, the 1990 decade, when the magazine assumes a political leading role in our country. The last chapter deals with the events around the contest of the third the fourth World Cup in 1970 and 1994. We also analyze the magazine articles that talked about the games played by the Brazilian national team, showing that the matter of nationalism was present, because we thought ourselves as a nation when the team, wearing yellow and green, entered the field. We conclude that the periods analyzed have many differences, whereas in the figure of the Cups “hero”, or in the association of soccer to the government, but we realize that it is present, in both of them, the idea that the Brazilian people identifies to the artistic way of playing soccer, because it contains element related to our identity as swing, dribbling and joy.
