This paper analyzes the documentary named Papão de 54, directed by Alexandre Derlam. The proposal of the film is to tell the story of Grêmio Esportivo Renner, invincible winner of the Rio Grande do Sul state championship in 1954. Even taking into account the constraints related to the historiography investigation, we have observed that this film can be considered a precious historical source to broaden the understanding not only of workers’ football in the 1950s, but also of the forms of sociability, behavior, world vision and values among athletes, coaches, supporters, bosses and employees, in sum, of all the agents involved in that sport modality in that historical period.
