Entre torcedoras e esportistas: A presença feminina na revista ilustrada Semana Sportiva em Salvador nos anos 1920

Este artigo discute a presença feminina nos esportes em Salvador nos anos 1920 através da revista Semana Esportiva. Fundada em 1921, veio a público num momento em que se inaugurou em Salvador um moderno estádio de futebol e um campo de jockey. Fazendo jus ao seu título, a revista acompanhava, detalhadamente, a vida esportiva da cidade, entrevistava atletas e dirigentes de clubes. Textos recomendando os esportes aos seus leitores eram publicados, indício de que as atividades atléticas e a estética corporal eram valorizadas, num contexto no qual circulavam discursos eugênicos. As capas da revista eram tomadas por imagens de torcedoras dos principais clubes de Salvador, lances de parti das de futebol ou regatas. Textos sobre a prática esportiva em diferentes lugares do país e do mundo eram frequentes. A análise das notícias, editoriais, crônicas, contos e entrevistas da Semana Esportiva, possibilitou perceber de que forma ocorreu o envolvimento feminino no universo esportivo, bem como identificar o perfil social das mulheres que vivenciavam aquele espaço. Além disso, buscou-se analisar o discurso da revista acerca da relação entre o esporte e as mulheres identificando em quais espaços e situações, o periódico considerava interessante o envolvimento daquelas na cultura esportiva. Ao final, concluímos que, se a presença feminina no universo esportivo da cidade defendeu alguns interesses masculinos, também foi resultado de lutas e tensões sociais em torno da reivindicação por parte das mulheres por novos espaços de sociabilidade

This paper discusses the presence of women in sports in Salvador in the 1920’s by the magazine named Semana Esportiva. Founded in 1921, came to public at a time when was inaugurated in Salvador a modern football stadium and a field of jockey. True to your title, the magazine accompanied, in detail, the sporting life of the city, interviewing athletes and clubs managers. Texts recommending the sports to their readers were published, an indication that the athletic activities and body aesthetics were valued, in a context which the eugenic discourses were in circulation. The covers of the magazine contained pictures of supporters of the top clubs of Salvador, moves of football matches or rowing. Texts about the sports practices in different parts of the country and the world were frequent. The analysis of news, editorials, essays, short stories and interviews of the Semana Esportiva allowed to understand how it happened the female involvement in sport universe, as well as identify the social profile of women who experienced that space. In addition, we attempted to analyze the discourse of the magazine about the relationship between sport and women, identifying which areas and situations, the magazine considered the involvement of the women interesting in the sport culture. At the end, we conclude that, if the presence of women in the sport universe of the city defended some male interests, was also the result of struggles and social tensions around the claim by women for new spaces of sociability
