“Um festin obsceno” pertencimento clubístico e expansão socioespacial do football em Oliveira – MG (1920-1930)

Neste estudo procuramos investigar, por meio da análise de periódicos, o processo de popularização do futebol na cidade de Oliveira – MG, entre os anos de 1920 e 1930, período que corresponde à introdução e à expansão socioespacial dessa prática entre seus aficionados. Notadamente, a apropriação do jogo pelas camadas populares gerou o acirramento das tensões interclassistas, especialmente em função da perda da exclusividade pelos grupos hegemônicos. Não obstante, observa-se na crônica esportiva local a emergência de temáticas que revelam os novos significados assumidos pela prática esportiva na cidade: o pertencimento clubístico, as rivalidades e a proliferação das formas não institucionalizadas do jogo de futebol pelas vias públicas. Essas metamorfoses anunciam a redefinição dos sentidos que os jogos de futebol assumem na década de 1930, evidenciando, portanto, as variáveis socioculturais que ilustram seu processo de popularização.

In this study we investigate, by means of analyzing newspapers articles, the process of popularization of football (soccer, in American English) in city of Oliveira, between the years 1920 and 1930, a period that corresponds to the introduction and the sociospatial expansion of this practice among its enthusiasts. The appropriation of the game and its practice by the popular layers of society caused the increase of social tension, especially due to the loss of exclusiveness by hegemonic groups. Nevertheless, the local news at the time showed the emergence of themes that revealed the new meanings assumed by sport activities in the city: the idea of belonging to a club, the rivalries, and the proliferation of forms not institutionalized of the game that spread to the streets. These changes redefined the way that football matches and practice were seen in the 1930s, thus showing the sociocultural variables that illustrate its popularization process.
